OK The hoop house.

So we are putting up a hoop house. A hoop house is a inexpensive way to get a greenhouse up. Here on the north coast, tomatoes, peppers, and other hot weather varieties don't do so good in the summer fog so you need to make them a house.

The first step of the hoop house construction was to till and amend the soils. Build the base frame. Figure out how the hell the structure was going to go up. First round I didn't let the glue set, so needless to say, I had to go back and reglue the pvc.

Now a hoop house is essentially a PVC quansit hut covered with greenhouse poly covering it.

See that behind me? This yard came with established artichokes and Rosemary!

It took strapping the mid points with a plumbing strap to keep the mid points from boinging!

Finally, you have to screw it all together and get the poly as tight as possible.

Next. Planting the garden!!!

Memorial to Dad

After my father passed this December I lost my shit for a while. I am back in it now. In the interim I decided to do a memorial for him so I will never forget. Now my pops was a pretty sage guy. In the process of processing I dove into the Tao Te Ching. One of his favorite reads. In digging through the text a passage struck me that reminded me of my father. The final passage, "Through Selfless Action he attains fulfillment". That was my father, loving, selfless. I had this fitting passage of the Tao tattooed on my arm. Now I will never forget the importance of selfless action.

Here is the passage on my arm:

Here is the whole passage:

Heaven and earth last forever.
Why do heaven and earth last forever?
They are unborn,
So ever living.
The sage stays behind, thus he is ahead.
He is detached, thus at one with all.

Through selfless action, he attains fulfillment

New Year

Well last December was nutty and the beginning of the year is come and passed. Time to get the head up and keep on keeping on. Well Jenn and I bought a new house. In Arcata. Now the projects ensue. We moved in cleaned up painted and have been going nuts on the garden. Now no, this isn't our new house. And we aren't going to live THIS sustainable.

However, we are planting a garden, greenhouse, and using a permaculture design for the back. Hold you breath it is all exciting..

Poppa Rest in Peace

You will be missed. You are loved.

Shortly after putting up this memorial for my father that just passed, I ran across this post. For those of you who know me, knows that I generally strive for a serendipitous life. It seemed fitting.
